A relaxing place to unwind.

August 5, 2013
Beach pictures from the week of July 1st.
Gulf Shores, Alabama
My wife LaSharen
For many people, the week of July 4th is a time to head to the beach. However, it is a difficult time to travel to during the summer because of all the vacationers going to their favorite splash sites. That's why it's important to have a little gettaway place to go where you can avoid all the travel woes and take a short drive and still enjoy the beach and sun. That's exactly what my wife and I did. We took advantage of what would be a long weekend and headed to her home town of Gulf Shores, Alabama. A small beach city located between Pensacola, Florida and Mobile, Alabama. A place that has completely recovered from one of history's largest oil spills. Nonetheless, this small almost exclusive beach community houses some of the most expensive beach front property and great seafood restaurants in the Southeast. The sand is so soft, it reminds me of the way baby powder feels on your skin. At one time, the sand was as white as sugar, but now it's more like brown sugar.

Gulf Shores, is just a nice place to go and relax. As you can see, the beach is not crowded and it's very quiet. A great place for a romantic evening, a walk on the beach or surf boarding, kinda like skateboarding on water. This kid was great. Look at his elevation.
Surf boarding
A word of caution though, the waves can get pretty ruff and the under tow can get very strong. Also they have a lot of marine life so watch out for the jellyfish. Life guards are very alert and on their jobs, so stay alert.  Finally, when you're done at the beach go grab a bit to eat for some fresh seafood. A great place to go is the Shrimp Basket if you're interested in fried fish and shrimp one of the most popular restaurants in town. At least I think so.... , or try the Original Oyster House, a great place for Alligator bites. There is one other place I would like to mention and that's Orange Beach. A great place to launch your boat or jet ski. Oh by the way, if you are a golfer, there are at least 10 different course within miles of each other. You want have a problem getting a tee time, but plan ahead. There is plenty of shopping too. The Tanger Outlet has all the premium stores you love in the big city, so shop well. The rest is up to you to discover and enjoy.
Stay tune for more "things to do and places to go with C.W.. See you later.
